Educraft and Walsall Council have teamed up to bring Pixel Craft to West Walsall this Easter, to support the Government’s “HAF” (Holiday Activities and Food) Programme.
Pixel Craft WALSALL is a free, four day holiday club at Fibbersley Park Primary Academy featuring coding, craft and video game design. It is exclusively for children and young people aged between 8 and 14 who receive benefit related free school meals.
Attendees will receive a free, healthy plant-based hot lunch together with healthy snacks and refreshments throughout the day.
Pixel Craft WALSALL runs from 10am to 4pm each day between Monday 3rd – Thursday 6th April 2023 at Fibbersley Park Primary Academy, Noose Lane, Willenhall WV13 3BB.
To book places on the Pixel Craft holiday club please log into the Walsall Holiday Activities and Food programme website, search for the ‘Pixel Craft’ activity and book your child’s place. There are just 30 places available for the week, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Alternatively, please contact us via email at email@example.com and advise us of the HAF Code(s) for each eligible child that you would like to book onto the club, together with their full name, date of birth and the name of the school that they attend.
Note – parents and carers should have received a letter, containing a unique HAF code for each eligible child together with information about how to register. If you haven’t received a letter and feel that you are eligible, please email the council’s HAF team at WR4C@walsall.gov.uk. You only need to register once for the 2023-2024 programme and you can access your account throughout the year.
Here are just some of the exciting activities we have lined up…
Pixel Power – BLITZ!
Design and animate video game graphics using BBC BASIC, the language of the original educational computer, the BBC Micro. Then take the knowledge learned to customise and play your own version of the classic video game Blitz!
Pixel Dash – RABBIT RAMPAGE!
A themed retro game design workshop where you get to design graphics and levels using our ‘Pixel Dash’ game engine. Unleash your creativity to create pixel art graphics and animations, design taxing levels and then make coding modifications to the game engine.
Pixel Power – INVADERS
Another chance to design and animate video game graphics using BBC BASIC. This time we will take the knowledge learned to customise and play our own versions of a classic Invaders video game.
Papercraft – build paper models of classic computers or even a cool Minecraft diorama.
Beadcraft – creating unique or pre-designed pixel sprites using fuse-beads and turning them into beautiful key-rings or jewellery to take home.
Physical Activity – Continuing the video game theme, our physical activity session lets you dance along to songs like the Super Mario theme and the Pac-man dance, or follow choreographed lightsaber sequences in time to music.
Board Games – a wide selection of board games are available that help develop thinking abilities and life skills.
Video Games – Arcade classics from the early 1980s including Pac Man, Frogger and Space Invaders. Classic Nintendo games including the original Super Mario Brothers. Classic SEGA games, including the original version of Sonic the Hedgehog. Or unleash your creativity on Minecraft – Pi Edition.
Free Food (and healthy eating discussion) – A nutritious, locally prepared plant-based lunch and an informative and interactive talk about the benefits of a plant-based diet.
